Chess in Bonn 9
More about this list
Bonn’s clubs are spread across the city. The Godesberger Schachklub 1929 plays on Friday evenings on Koblenzer Straße in Bad Godesberg and held its last rapid tournament of 2026 in October, Schachclub Bonn Beuel settles its rapid championship on the right bank of the Rhine, and SC Empor Maulwurf Bonn, based at the Venusberg-Campus, sends teams into the Bezirksliga. The Vereinigung der Schachsportfreunde began in 1979 as a chess group of the city administration and is no longer limited to its staff.
Several Bonn schools play chess as well: the Kardinal-Frings-Gymnasium in Beuel and the Beethoven-Gymnasium have working groups, the Bodelschwinghschule runs two for its primary pupils, and the Schlossbachschule and the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Gymnasium have sent teams to the NRW school finals. Each December Bonn also hosts a qualifier of the German amateur championship, which is listed with the tournaments.
